MCA Flame Retardant

MCA flame retardant CAS No. 37640-57-6, a universal halogen-free environmentally friendly flame retardant, suitable for multiple polymer systems such as nylon (PA6/PA66), PE/EVA cable materials, epoxy resin, TPE elastomers, etc., to meet the flame retardant and compliance needs in the fields of electronics and electrical, wire and cable, automotive parts, building materials, etc.

The MCA flame retardant developed by Taixing, a professional manufacturer in China, adopts precise molecular ratio crystallization and silane coupling agent interface modification core technology to construct a stable layered hydrogen bond structure, with a nitrogen content of ≥ 58.5%. It has a triple flame retardant mechanism of heat absorption and cooling, gas-phase dilution, and condensed phase carbonization. With only 8% -22% addition, it can achieve 1.6mm thickness UL 94 V-0 flame retardant, completely solving the industry problem of "high addition, low efficiency, and difficult compatibility" of traditional products. It provides an efficient, environmentally friendly, and cost-effective flame retardant solution, and offers a cost-effective halogen-free flame retardant solution for the global manufacturing industry.

Core strengths

1. The synergistic triple flame retardant mechanism effectively blocks the combustion process

-The three in one flame retardant protective net of "heat absorption+dilution+carbonization": in high temperature environments above 320 ℃, MCA molecules absorb a large amount of heat and decompose, releasing inert gases such as nitrogen and carbon dioxide, diluting the concentration of oxygen and combustible gases in the combustion zone; At the same time, the decomposition products undergo a synergistic reaction with the substrate resin, forming a dense and continuous carbon layer on the surface of the material, physically blocking heat transfer and oxygen permeation, and cutting off the combustion chain reaction from the root.

-Low addition amount for efficient flame retardancy: Adding 12% to pure PA6 system can achieve UL 94 V-0 grade, and when used in combination with aluminum hypophosphite, the addition amount can be reduced to 8%; Adding 20% to PE cable material can meet the IEC 60332-1 cable flame retardant standard, and the limit oxygen index (LOI) can be increased from 18% -22% of the substrate to over 30%, with a self extinguishing time of ≤ 3 seconds.

-Zero halogen, low smoke, low toxicity and environmental protection properties: There is no release of toxic and corrosive gases such as hydrogen halides and dioxins during the combustion process. The smoke density (DS, 4 minutes) is ≤ 150, and the smoke toxicity meets the EU EN 13501-1:2024 safety standard. It is suitable for scenarios with strict requirements for smoke toxicity, such as automotive interiors and enclosed electronic devices.

2. Interface modification optimization, balancing processing performance and mechanical properties

-Adopting environmentally friendly silane coupling agent coating technology: greatly improving the interface compatibility with polar and non-polar substrates, solving the problem of white spots and pockmarks caused by uneven dispersion of traditional MCA products. In the glass fiber reinforced PA66 system, the dispersion uniformity is improved by 60%, and the surface smoothness of the product reaches mirror level.

-Dual form adaptation to multiple processing techniques: powder form adaptation to dry mixing, excellent flowability, and storage in a 60% humidity environment for 3 months without clumping; Particle morphology adaptation for automated feeding, dust-free and pollution-free, measurement accuracy error ≤ ± 0.5%, equipment wear rate reduced by 60%, meeting the needs of laboratory research and development and large-scale production.

-Minimizing the loss of mechanical properties: The addition has minimal impact on the mechanical properties of the substrate. The retention rate of the notch impact strength of PA6 products is ≥ 88%, and the retention rate of the fracture elongation of PE cable materials is ≥ 85%. It perfectly balances the flame retardant performance and material structural strength, meeting the dual important requirements of structural and appearance components.

3. Wide temperature range thermal stability, suitable for all scene processing needs

-Excellent thermal decomposition characteristics: 1% thermal weight loss temperature ≥ 315 ℃, fully decomposed at 440-450 ℃, processing temperature window covering 240-330 ℃, can be matched with high-temperature extrusion and precision injection molding processes of engineering plastics such as nylon and polyester, and is also suitable for low-temperature granulation of EVA cable materials. High temperature processing has no premature degradation, no volatile gas release, and avoids product bubbles and warping defects.

-Outstanding weather and hydrolysis resistance: After 1000 hours of xenon lamp aging test, the retention rate of flame retardancy and mechanical properties is ≥ 85%; After being placed in a humid and hot environment of 85 ℃/85% RH for 500 hours, there is no significant moisture absorption or agglomeration, and the performance degradation meets the long-term service requirements of automotive components and outdoor cables.

-Stable and reliable electrical performance: volume resistivity ≥ 10 Ω· cm, leakage tracking index (CTI) ≥ 600V, added without affecting the dielectric properties of the substrate, suitable for products with high insulation requirements such as electronic component casings and wiring terminals.

Application field

1. Halogen free flame retardant of polyamide (nylon)

·Unreinforced PA6/PA66: Adding 10-15% MCA-P can usually achieve UL 94 V-0 (1.6mm) grade and maintain good surface gloss and high CTI value (usually>500V), suitable for coil skeletons and electrical switch housings.

·Fiberglass reinforced PA: In fiberglass reinforced systems (such as PA66+30% GF), it is recommended to use surface treated MCA or compound with a small amount of synergist (such as diethylaluminum phosphate), with a total addition amount of about 15-22%, to meet V-0 requirements and minimize the degradation of mechanical properties (especially impact strength).

2. Thermoplastic polyester

·PBT/PET and its reinforcing materials: MCA is one of the mainstream choices for PBT halogen-free flame retardant. Usually, adding 12-18% MCA-P can effectively achieve V-0 level. To suppress droplets, it is often used in combination with a small amount of synergists such as polydimethylsiloxane. This system is widely used in electronic connectors, relays, etc.

3. Automotive parts field

-Application: Automotive buckles, corrugated pipes, interior frames, high-voltage wire harness fasteners

-Recommended formula: PA6 80%+MCA flame retardant 12%+fiberglass 5%+antioxidant 3%

-Advantages: Halogen free environmental protection meets FMVSS 302 automotive interior flame retardant standards, VOC emissions meet standards, excellent resistance to moisture and heat aging, meeting the 10-year service life requirements of automobiles, and lightweight design helps reduce body weight.

4.Engineering plastics and rubber field

-Application: Epoxy resin sealant, polyurethane elastomer, flame retardant rubber seal

-Recommended formula: 85% epoxy resin+10% MCA flame retardant+5% curing agent

-Advantages: The flame retardant rating reaches UL 94 V-0 level, with no bubbles after curing, low shrinkage rate, acid and alkali corrosion resistance, excellent processing flowability, suitable for electronic component sealing, anti-corrosion engineering sealing and other scenarios.
