Zinc borate flame retardant for plastics is produced by Taixing factory through precise particle size engineering, surface modification technology, and chemical collaborative design to solve the problem of performance loss in plastic flame retardancy. Its aim is to provide flame retardant, safety, smoke suppression, and other solutions for PVC, engineering plastics, polyolefins, elastomers, and composite materials.
·Intelligent collaboration, cost reduction and efficiency improvement: It produces a synergistic effect of "1+1>2" with ATH/MDH, phosphorus nitrogen and other flame retardant systems, significantly reducing the total amount of flame retardants added, optimizing material costs and processing flowability.
·Performance Guardian: By optimizing the interface and controlling particle size, the negative impact on impact strength, tensile performance, and surface smoothness is minimized.
·Multi functional integration: Simultaneously achieve multiple functions such as flame retardant, smoke suppressant, anti dripping, Char former, and anti tracking.
·Processing friendly: Excellent dispersibility, thermal stability, and compatibility with plastic substrates ensure smooth and unobstructed processes such as extrusion and injection molding.
1. Dual synergistic flame retardant model of condensed phase and gas phase
Realize multi-level protection when plastic decomposes under heat:
·The first stage (~300 ° C): begins to decompose, releases crystal water, absorbs heat, and cools the substrate.
·The second stage (>350 ° C): The decomposed boron anhydride (B₂O₃) forms a viscous glass body, covering the surface of the polymer melt, promoting the formation of a continuous, dense, and high-strength expanded carbon layer. This carbon layer is an excellent thermal and oxygen barrier.
·Gas phase interaction: The released active substance can capture H • and OH • radicals in the combustion chain reaction, interrupting flame propagation.
2. Dialogue mechanism with different flame retardant systems
·Collaboration with ATH/MDH: Zinc borate can lower the decomposition temperature of ATH/MDH, allowing it to release water vapor in advance and absorb heat, while jointly constructing a more robust ceramic residue layer, significantly improving the flame retardant level of polyolefin and other systems.
·Synergistic effect with phosphorus based flame retardants: In engineering plastics, boron and phosphorus elements produce a "boron phosphorus synergistic effect". Phosphorus promotes char formation, while boron stabilizes and enhances the char layer, forming a more protective "coke armor", while significantly reducing the hydrolysis risk and impact on electrical performance caused by the addition of phosphorus based flame retardants.
·Smoke suppression mechanism: By promoting the formation of condensed phase into charcoal, the generation of combustible gases (smoke precursors) is reduced; Simultaneously promoting the oxidation of smoke particles to CO ₂ in the gas phase.
1. Application of Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC)
·Application points: wire and cable sheaths/insulation materials, conveyor belts, flooring, wallpaper, profiles.
·Challenge: Need to replace antimony based synergists to achieve halogen-free low smoke while maintaining thermal stability.
·P-Series solution: Use P-200 in combination with ATH. In soft PVC, adding 8-15 phr can significantly reduce smoke density (up to 50% or more), meet standards such as IEC 61034 and IEC 60754, and maintain good elongation.
2. Application of engineering plastics (PBT, PA, PET)
·Application points: electronic and electrical connectors, circuit breaker housings, automotive components, LED lamp sockets.
·Challenge: Need to achieve UL94 V-0 (thin-walled), high CTI (>500V), high RTI, without precipitation or hydrolysis.
·P-Series solution: Use P-500, compounded with red phosphorus masterbatch or aluminum diethylphosphinate (ADP). Adding 5-8% P-500 to 30% glass fiber reinforced PBT can achieve stable V-0 and increase CTI value by more than 20% while reducing the amount of main flame retardant by 10-20%.
3. Application of Polyolefins (PP, PE, EVA)
·Application points: new energy vehicle battery module bracket, wire slot, home appliance shell, foam insulation material.
·Challenge: Poor fluidity under high filling, sudden drop in mechanical properties, and difficulty in vertical combustion.
·P-Series solution: Use P-800, compounded with high filling ATH (~150phr). Its special surface treatment greatly improves the dispersibility in non-polar resins, resulting in a significant increase in impact strength retention and excellent smoke suppression performance of the composite material while passing UL94 V-0.
4. Thermoplastic elastomers and wire and cable materials
·Application points: halogen-free flame-retardant cable insulation material, fireproof sealing strip.
·Challenge: Balancing flame retardancy and flexibility.
·Solution: P-Series can be used as an efficient smoke suppressant synergist in EVA based or polyolefin based cable materials, in conjunction with ATH, to produce low smoke halogen-free cables that comply with regulations such as EN 50575 and CPR.
